When it’s necessary to physically changing part of the workplace to make it safer, this is called “engineering”. It often involves installing something that protects workers from a hazard.
This microlearning course is an introduction to “engineering” in the hierarchy of controls. It uses examples to demonstrate how modifying hazardous things in the workplace can reduce associated risks. It is part of the Toolbox Talks series that aims to raise awareness of some of the safety processes that exist in the workplace and clarify commonly used terms for the everyday worker.
