Who is Renu Contracting & Restoration

Renu Contracting & Restoration is a multi-generational, family-owned company founded in 1959. Originally launched as a retail and commercial flooring business, Renu has transformed over six decades into a leading full-service general contracting, restoration, and energy solutions firm. With a fleet of trucks equipped with generators and disaster relief equipment, the company is known for delivering high-volume, mass-scale emergency services across Long Island and the Hudson Valley, NY.

Why RENU Chose Litmos

Before implementing Litmos, Renu’s training approach was inconsistent and outdated. “Training was almost non-existent. Compliance training was a manual process. We would watch a video in the conference room, sign an attendance sheet, and hope vendors were available to provide training. We had to rely on the availability of vendors/manufacturers to come on-site to offer training for specific groups. Managers never received training on what it means to manage people, not just the work,” Quinn recalls.

When evaluating solutions, Litmos stood out as the clear choice for Renu. “Everything was there in a simple and clean package. I really appreciate the reporting features. I click a few buttons of what I’m looking for and bam- there’s my report. The AI Assistant was a huge bonus for our field staff. Rather than navigating the app, they simply prompt the AI Assistant with a voice command, and it returns the course they’re looking for along with the SOP we built around it. It requires almost no thought,” says Quinn. The mobile app of Litmos was also critical, as half of Renu’s workforce operates in the field without access to a PC.

Integrations with ADP, Salesforce, and Microsoft teams were also key advantages when it came to Litmos.

ROI and Success: How RENU is Winning with Litmos LMS

The company rebranded its platform as RMS University and went live in under two weeks! From day one, the focus was on automating safety and compliance training, digitizing SOPs, and enabling QR code access to equipment-specific resources to reduce misused and damaged equipment.

The results of adopting Litmos were immediate and measurable. In the first 90 days, Renu’s workforce of just 200 employees completed more than 1,500 courses. Compliance tracking, once an administrative burden, became fully automated. “By automating compliance tracking and pushing the information directly to managers, we were basically done with compliance training within two weeks,” Quinn noted.

Litmos also made a huge impact on manager training. “Manager training was one of our first wins. During an analysis of training gaps across the organization, we discovered that almost none of the current managers received any type of formalized manager training.  We created two separate curriculums, one for existing managers and one for new managers. Once our first new manager came onboard, the curriculum was automatically assigned. We’re quickly noticing a change in management style on the other side of the building. They’re scheduling collaboration meetings, having check-ins with employees regularly, and are bringing their own training ideas to us to incorporate into Litmos.”

Engagement also surged thanks to gamification. “Ease of use has been our most popular feedback. Our user base fell in love with the leaderboard. The gamification and competition features made a tremendous impact on engagement. People come into my office saying they ‘dropped two places’ or asking for ‘more ways to earn badges’. Our users have earned 1,364 badges in just 6 months,” excitedly explains Quinn.

Quinn also shares his positive experience with Litmos support, “I’ve worked with multiple LMS systems in my career and every time I submit a ticket, I’m shocked at how quickly I receive a resolution. I feel comfortable enough to always submit a ticket, even for the little things. It makes me feel like I’m part of the Litmos team.”

The operational and financial impact has been significant. “The ROI is growing faster than the S&P 500,” Quinn said. “In addition to our users constantly learning and developing, we virtually eliminated the need to overnight employee safety credentials, avoided non-conformance fees at jobsites, and freed up two full-time employees by automating how we monitor and assign safety courses,” Quinn continues, “Training costs, once a drain on resources, are almost non-existent compared to the amount we are earning from user engagement.”

One of the bigger obstacles we anticipated facing was how to promote engagement with our construction crews out in the field.  We focused our attention on getting them access to content/resources with the least amount of effort.  The AI Assistant bridged that gap.  When demonstrating Litmos during our launch campaign, we heavily focused on showing the capabilities of talk-to-text with the AI Assistant on a mobile device.  So, when a worker prompts “how do I purge a dehumidifier or how do I return a floor sander to the warehouse?”, the AI Assistant shares training videos that were created internally along with downloadable PDFs of company policies and even digital copies of user manuals.  Damaged equipment returns have declined, routine maintenance is being completed on the job site instead of back at the warehouse, and our workforce can gain knowledge about each piece of equipment they have access to without having to wait for a project that provides the necessary hands-on experience.

From Limited Development to Lasting Success: How Renu Thrives with Litmos Training Content & Content Authoring Tool (CAT)

Litmos has also helped Renu elevate professional development across the company. Employees now have access to off-the-shelf content libraries, fueling personal and leadership growth. “Our organization never had access to professional development before. After our launch, activity within the platform skyrocketed,” Quinn reflected.

When asked how much time is being saved by utilizing the pre-built Litmos content, Quinn answered, “This cannot be measured in hours, but days. As we are a department of one, utilizing off-the-shelf content was critical during implementation. Now that our users are becoming more familiar with the platform, leadership is excited to create department/division-specific content.”

When it comes to creating that department/division-specific content, the Litmos Content Authoring Tool (CAT) is invaluable. Renu can easily transition their SOP Library into Litmos using the CAT. Once the assets are created, it gets assigned to the teams. Quinn says, “Our leadership is thrilled that we don’t need a paper-based library, it’s permission-based, and accessible from anywhere.”

Looking Forward: The Future of RENU + Litmos

Renu continues to expand its use of Litmos with ambitious goals for the coming years. Over the next few quarters, the company will work with its marketing team to build out its Tools & Equipment Catalog with new job aids, worksheets, and video demonstrations. Division-based annual training requirements will be introduced to strengthen knowledge across departments and ensure mastery of Renu’s products and services.

By Q3 2026, Renu plans to extend training to subcontractors through an external onboarding and compliance program.
