What does the DocuSign integration do?
DocuSign pioneered the development of e-signature technology, and today offers the world’s #1 e-signature solution. It’s just part of DocuSign’s broader cloud-based System of Agreement Platform, which allows companies of all sizes and across all industries to quickly modernize and digitize the entire agreement process—all the way from preparing agreements to signing, enacting and managing them—from almost anywhere in the world, on practically any device.
With Litmos’ DocuSign integration, training administrators can create Esignature Modules that embed your organization’s DocuSign Templates into Litmos Courses for an embedded DocuSign signing experience!

Activate the DocuSign Integration:
- Navigate to the Account tab.
- From the Integrations subtab, click the DocuSign icon.
- Check the “Enable DocuSign” box and enter the DocuSign credentials and the DocuSign Account ID associated with those credentials. This ensures you connect to the correct account and can embed all the necessary DocuSign Templates into Litmos.
The Account ID can be found in DocuSign when accessing the Account Profile as an Admin.
Important Note: Litmos suggests that DocuSign customers create a dedicated User that will serve as an integration user for the DocuSign integration. This user should be granted access to all of the DocuSign Templates that will need to be embedded in Litmos training courses. Once this is confirmed, use the API User credentials to connect Litmos with your DocuSign account. This is the best way to preserve the connection as well as protect an individual user’s access in DocuSign.
Important Note: To use the integration, it is required to use a DocuSign API account that allows for Embedded Signing
Create a DocuSign Esignature Module:
- Create a course from the Admin Library or access an existing course
- Click “Add Content”
- Click “Create” and then create a new “Esignature” module type
Once a new Module Title and Module Description have been typed, find the “Esignature Module Type” drop-down and choose the “Litmos DocuSign” option.
This will provide an option to “Select a DocuSign Template”. Choose the DocuSign Template that you want to embed into the Litmos course for esignature and press “save”.
Important Note: It can take a few seconds for the DocuSign Template list to load.
Important Note: Before Learners can successfully access a Template for embedded signing in a Litmos course, the “role” for the Template must be defined. You can define the role for the Template by navigating to Templates –> Edit the Template –> Define the recipient role for each Template as “Learner”, as this will be the value Litmos sends to DocuSign to validate the embedded signing session for any chosen Template.
Embedded DocuSign Experience, Learner View:
When a Learner accesses the Litmos DocuSign Esignature Module, the Learner will be informed that an Esignature is required to complete the Module.
Once the Learner clicks the Start button, the DocuSign Template will load and the Learner will enter the embedded signing experience. To initiate the embedded signing experience, the Learner will click “Continue”.
Once the Learner completes the Esignature requirements enforced by the DocuSign Master Template, the Learner will click “Finish” to submit the signature.
Important Note: The embedded signing requirements for the Template are managed by the Administrators and Document Owners in DocuSign.
Important Note: The embedded signing styling and the “Other Action” drop-down options can be customized by DocuSign Administrators to meet your organizations signing requirements. Navigate to Brands –> Select or add a Brand –> Edit the Brand. On the branding page, Administrators can choose the logo and colors Learners will see during the embedded signing session, as well as customize the “Resource Files”. The Resource File that is responsible for managing the embedded signing options is the “Signing Resource File”.
Please speak with DocuSign Support on how to best alter your Signing Resource File, as this is an advanced option in DocuSign that governs signing experiences for the entire DocuSign account.
Report on Litmos DocuSign Esignatures
The best way to report on any DocuSign Esignature is to log into DocuSign and access DocuSign reporting. With that said, it is possible to report on the last DocuSign Esignature submitted from any Learner within Litmos by accessing Litmos’ Module Quick Report to find and open the reporting records related to the DocuSign Esignature Module attempts in Litmos.
Navigate to Reports –> Quick Reports –> Modules –> Search the name of the Litmos DocuSign Esignature Module –> Open the module and review individual Learner attempts logged for the module.
Once opened, basic information relating to date attempted, the time taken can be ascertained, and a signed copy of the embedded DocuSign Template by the Learner can be found for the last attempt at the module.
