Equivalency feature allows Admins to group courses as equivalent within a Learning path. Admin can create multiple course equivalency groups from which learners just have to complete one from each group. Learners gain achievement for the learning path when the LP is completed and also gain achievements for the completed course(s).
Note: The course equivalency is only valid in context of a learning path and does not make courses equivalent globally. i.e. say Course 1 = Course 2 in LP 1 and learner completed Course 1 to complete the LP 1. Now Course 2 is not marked complete automatically. This provides admins the flexibility to assign un-attempted courses via different Learning path or directly to a user as needed.
How to Enable Equivalencies
Account owners can enable equivalencies from the feature list Account settings > Litmos feature for their organization. Once enabled, a new ‘Course equivalencies’ setting option will be available with each Learning path >Settings. This allows course admins to turn on/off equivalencies with each learning path as they fit.
Note:
-
Equivalencies cannot be turned off from the settings when the LP still has equivalent groups. Admin will have to remove equivalency groups before turning off the feature.
-
Account owner can disable the Equivalency feature from the Account setting> Litmos features section. This will freeze all LPs with equivalencies in time, cannot be modified or disabled form LP settings.
How Equivalencies Work
Simply add courses to the LP with the ‘Add course’ button available on the content tab and then click on the “+” next to newly added course to create an equivalent group.
-
Admins will have the ability to add courses to an equivalent group and also add standalone courses to the learning path.
-
Groups are created with a system generated name that can be updated.
-
The course count will account the equivalent group as 1 course as only one course from the whole group is required to be completed.
-
Learners only require completing one of the courses from within the equivalent group.
-
Learners will only gain achievement for the courses actually attempted and completed and for the learning path upon 100% completion.
Reporting
Learning path reports within quick report and Reporting engine report will also capture the equivalency details. New dimensions have been added to the report to capture that information:
Learning Path Quick Report
-
At the LP level a new ‘Equivalency enabled’ dimension shows True or False value and
-
At the Individual user’s course details will show the name of the ‘Equivalency Group’ that the course belongs to.
-
These are not default fields and the admin must manually select them from the column filters
