Use Learning Paths to organize courses and create prerequisites for your learners. When courses have been added to a Learning Path, the list of courses within will be available to assigned Learners.
Why you may want to use Learning Paths:
- Guide Learners seamlessly from one course to the next.
- Allow learners to take “a la carte” or group courses together; If the learner completes a course outside a Learning Path, the course will be completed within the Learning Path.
- Create Prerequisites so that learners cannot proceed to a course until they have completed a prerequisite course (See the Course and Learning Path Prerequisites section for details)
- Create Equivalencies so that a learner must complete just one of the equivalent courses in a group within a Learning Path (See the Equivalencies section for details).
To create a Learning Path:
- Navigate to Content > (Quick Actions) > Create a Learning Path
2. Create a Name and Description, apply other settings for your use case, and ‘Save’
Adding Courses and Organizing the Learning Path
- Navigate to an existing Learning Path or create a new one using the instructions above.
- Click ‘Add Courses’ > Select the courses > ‘Add.’
- To change the Order of the courses in a Learning Path, select “Reorder courses” above the list of courses. Drag and drop the courses in the desired Order. When done, select ‘Done reordering Courses.’
- Courses in a Learning Path can be marked as Optional. If a Course is marked as Optional, it will not count toward the completion status for that Learning Path.
- Cannot exceed 50 courses in a single Learning Path
- Suppose the Learning Path has been changed (by adding or removing courses or changing courses to optional or mandatory). In that case, the Learning Path will be Recalculated to reflect the change for incomplete users. See the Courses and Learning Path – Auto-Recalculate section for more information.
Dependent on the settings applied to the Learning Path, the following bulk actions can be performed against the selected user(s) at the ‘Perform a bulk action on selected people tool,’ found in the learning path’s People sub-tab:
- Change Access Expiration Date: Bulk-update the selected users to a new Access Expiration Date for the learning path.
- Send Access date reminder Email: Send access date reminder Email for users on whom the bulk action is performed.
- Waiting for Approval (approve or reject enrollments): Bulk-approve or Reject the selected users’ approval request for the learning path.
- Unlock all courses from Timed Release: This will unlock the courses within the Learning path from the set Timed Release for users on whom the bulk action is performed.
- Reset the Timed Release of courses within the learning path: This will reset the courses within the Learning path back to the set Timed Release for users on whom the bulk action is performed.
Assign People and Teams
Both People and Teams can be assigned to a Learning Path. To assign a Learning Path to a Person or a Team:
- Navigate to an existing Learning Path or create a new one using the instructions above.
- Select the People subtab or the Teams sub-tab.
- Select “Assign to existing people” or “Assign to team.”
- In the popup, select the users to assign to and then select whether to send a Learning Path invitation to learners upon assignment. Click Assign
Within Teams flow: Navigate through the People page to easily access users and their status. Additional columns capture the assigned date, status, and all other information.
- Users are sorted by their assigned date by default and pre-filtered for Active only.
- Filter users based on Teams, Status, Completion, and Content access and approval status while retaining the filters across all the pages to perform the desired bulk actions efficiently.
- View the user’s content-specific details by clicking the ‘Info’ icon. This section includes each user’s – Approval Request Status, Access Till Date, and Assignment Type.
Important Note: The Administrator view and people sub-tab within the learning path page do not support these enhancements. This is limited to the team view only.
Viewing a Learning Path as a Learner
Learning Paths will appear to learners similarly to how courses do, but they will be marked with a “Learning Path” tag.
When the Learner clicks on the Learning Path, they see the list of Courses in the Learning Path with a collapsible menu to view the Modules within each Course.
Learning Path progress is based on Course completion, and the Learner will see their progress as they move through the Learning Path. For example, if a Learning Path has two courses and one Course is complete, the learning path is 50% complete.
When a Learner completes a Learning Path, they will receive an Achievement in their Achievements tab along with the appropriate certificate if one is uploaded to the Learning Path settings. See the How to Create and Upload a Certificate Template to a Course or Learning Path section for more information.
